SuperTrap

Sometimes we need more absorption at a certain frequency or bandwidth than the standard TubeTrap for that same frequency range can provide. That’s when SuperTraps are called into play.

SuperTraps are TubeTraps tuned to operate to lower frequency than their standard counterparts.

They are standard TubeTraps whose interior has been fit with acoustic circuitry to reshape their frequency response curve in the bass range, creating more efficiency in one tuned bandwidth at the expense of efficiency in the sidebands.

Description

SuperTrapWhat is the SuperTrap? There is a certain amount of air inside each model TubeTrap. In the standard TubeTrap, this air volume is like the air volume inside a sealed speaker cabinet, the bigger the box, the lower the frequency it can play. Sometimes more broadband absorption is not wanted. Sometimes more absorption in a specific bandwidth is required. The interior air cavity of the standard TubeTrap can be multi-chambered and interconnected and turned into a more complicated acoustic circuit, besides just a simple acoustic capacitor.

This interior acoustic circuit typically turns one whole TubeTrap into two separate TubeTraps in one whole TubeTrap package. Typically 1/3rd of the TubeTrap acts like a good sound panel while the other 2/3rds of it acts like a very deep breathing low frequency TubeTrap, a.k.a. SuperTrap.

SuperTrap

The Helmholtz version of the tuned bass trap works well with continuous tones or broadband noise. But it doesn’t work well instantaneously, on pressure transients. However the EQ’d version of theTubeTrap does not have a resonance, which allows more powerful non-resonant absorption in specific frequency ranges. All of these models have identical treble range diffusion as any equivalent sized TubeTrap.

Standard-SuperTraps

These have reduced air volume behind part of the sound absorbing wall of the TubeTrap in exchange for increased air volume being located behind the rest of the surface area of the TubeTrap. Part of the trap breaths less deeply while the rest of the trap breaths more deeply.

Helmholtz-SuperTraps

These reduced air volume behind part of the sound absorbing wall of the TubeTrap, in exchange for an acoustic resonator being introduced into the remaining volume of air inside the Bass Traps. Part of the trap breaths less deeply while the rest of the trap breaths much more deeply at some particular frequency

Vari-SuperTraps

This design has adjustable Helmholtz bass traps. The elements of the acoustic circuit inside the TubeTrap can be adjusted by the owner or setup technician so that the response of the trap exactly matches the resonance response of the room and location in the room that the trap is being located in.

Venti-SuperTraps

This model has low frequency resonant traps that are used to change the shape of major mode resonances or standing waves in rooms. They are not used for absorbing bass but for moving the sound cancel zone away from the middle of the room, towards the back end wall of the room. They have very large resonator pipes and volumes with a slight damping factor added so they die out quickly enough to not be heard.
