Noise Floor: The Room

Published On: February 23, 2024Tags: , , , ,

The above graphic shows a typical out-of-control audio room, in which the self-noise is so high that many upper partials are completely inaudible. Not good! This could turn the sound of a Strativarius into that of a Casio!

How to Hear Your Room’s Noise Floor

Many people think room acoustics are not that important. Or they think their room sounds great as it is, and do not want to clutter up the space with TubeTraps and other visible treatment.

What they may not fully appreciate is how much of the musical experience they are missing, or more importantly, how much better things could be.

Enjoy this short video featuring ASC founder & president, Art Noxon, PE as he explains how to hear your room’s running noise floor, and the detrimental effects it has on musical playback accuracy.

The above graphic shows a (properly controlled) room with a much lower running reverberant noise floor.  Notice how many more upper partials are now audible above the noise. That’s a recipe for “real” sounding instruments and voices!

Yes, TubeTraps are the Answer

We make TubeTraps. People love TubeTraps because they work. They reduce the self-noise in the room without creating an overly dry, anechoic space. Add TubeTraps to your musical playback system and finally hear all the beautiful detail it is capable of presenting.
